Javier Herreros Riaza

About

I enable teams to build at scale. Former founder (acquired), virtual production architect, AI systems researcher. Every role — founder, professor, technician — taught me the same lesson: the system exists to serve the people, not the other way around.

One-liner

"Technology operations leader. Scaled 60+ person teams from startup to acquisition. Former founder → corporate systems architect. I enable teams to build at scale."

Professional Bio

Javier Herreros is a technology operations leader specializing in production systems at scale. He founded Virtual Voyagers (scaled to 60+ people, 100+ projects, acquired 2022) and co-founded Acid Drops, applying virtual production, ICVFX, and LED volumes to film. His track record spans Disney, Meta, Telefónica, Iberdrola, EY, and Netflix.

Currently developing the PRAXIS framework as a PhD candidate at UCM — a methodology for AI governance in production systems, validated through 98 documented sprints and 11 case studies. Every shoot day validates or refutes the theory.

Professor at Universidad Francisco de Vitoria and The Core Entertainment Science School, with guest teaching at U-TAD and Voxel School. 50+ students per year across 4 institutions — the most demanding leadership challenge he knows.

His metric isn't the logo on the deliverable — it's whether the final system empowers the team to achieve something they couldn't before.

Personal Perspective

At 14, I built a point-and-click adventure game that my classmates liked enough to ask for physical copies (even after I told them I had no interést in publishing it). That was the first sign that something lived at the intersection of technology and narrative worth a lifetime of exploration. I didn't wait for graduation to start; the first market validation came before the degree.

The Jurassic Park T-Rex at 19 (when I still believed visual effects were magic), San Francisco and the Singularity University workshop at NASA, big projects with a team of 5, the Virtual Voyagers acquisition, founding Acid Drops. The thread connecting all of it isn't the achievements; it's the constant search for that moment where technology disappears and only the story we want to tell remains. But I'm trying to mature.

The entire road has been an exercise in faith; taking steps through the mist without knowing whether the next one would send me over the edge. Every project, every company, every classroom has taught me that barriers aren't impassable points, but new limits to define together. The only real way to fail is standing still waiting for certainties that never come.

Education

PhD Candidate; UCM CAVP (2026)

PRAXIS Framework Development

Teaching

I teach because it forces me to question what I think I know. Each classroom is a laboratory where the challenge isn't transmitting knowledge; it's having someone prove me wrong in front of everyone.

Philosophy

"The entire road walked has been an exercise in faith; taking steps into the fog not knowing if the next one will send me plummeting into the void. Every project, every company, every classroom has taught me that barriers aren't impossible points to cross, but new limits to define together."
